Comment:

I was quite reluctant to watch this drama initially because after reading the synopsis it sounds just like any typical heart breaking Korean drama series again. I decided to try watching it and realised it is a meaningful drama and surprisingly it ended with a sweet and joyful note. Lee Dong Wook and Kim Sun Ah’s acting is superb, they were able to bring out the emotion and sensible reaction of both characters and their love makes viewers want to continue watching. The draw up of bucket list of top 20 things to do reminds me of things that I want to do but due to procrastination, still have yet to achieve. It serves as a wake up call for all of us to cherish our life. I like the fact that the drama is quite realistic and yet feel with hope in life.

During the final episode, Lee Yeon Jae was sitting under a tree and she says:

It’s been over six months since I was diagnosed with terminal cancer. And I’m now living my seventh month and second day. How much time will be given to me, I cannot know. Whether days or months, or more days beyond, it’s not important. I just have to live each day that I’m alive, this moment right now… without regret.”

And she began writing her no 21 bucket list item; it is heart warming as she is hopeful for her future. The drama ended with a message for viewers to be happy.

This beautiful drama reminds us that our time is limited in this world; we should be contented and do the things we love instead of wasting time living other people’s life and worried about their opinion. Just follow your heart and be happy. ^_^

Title: Secret Garden
Genre: Melodrama, Romance and Fantasy
Total Episodes: 20
Broadcast Year: 2010/2011

Brief Summary:

Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin) is an arrogant CEO until he meet Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won), a humble and talented stuntwoman. One day they were lost in the woods and lead to a strange house called ‘Secret Garden’ where they were offered wine and find themselves swap to each other’s body the very next day.

Comment:
I’m looking forward to this drama before it was officially air in Korea because I find the story plot really interesting and fantasy. Secondly it is because Hyun Bin will be in it! And true enough it’s really a very entertaining drama, Hyun Bin’s acting as the stuck up and childish CEO is just hilarious, you will see more unique expression from him from this drama. His acting is very convincing as a claustrophobic, and well done to both Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won for playing two characters so well! If you already love Hyun Bin in ‘My Name is Kim Sam Soon’, you will definitely love him more in ‘Secret Garden’! Ha Ji Won’s new image is also very cool, I thought she look handsome with her short hair and stuntwoman performance, quite different from her previous dramas. Its very funny when they swap bodies with each other as there are so many inconvenience and revolves into many misunderstandings.

Don’t know is it just me but I find one of their posters looks abit like the one in ‘You are Beautiful’, the flying part is very similar. I thought the glass bottles used to store the magic potion wine is very artistic and pretty, the flower wine looks more like fruit juice than magic potion! Anyway their soundtracks are very nice, love the song sang by Yoon Sang Hyun and other songs too. Much as I like the entertainment level of this drama, I do not think I will like the idea of swapping bodies with the guy I like, LOL..it will be so embarrassing! But I do not mind swapping with a beauty queen with a hot body and face of an angel..hmm..maybe this plot will be the next upcoming drama? If you enjoy fantasy stories, you wouldn’t want to miss ‘Secret Garden’!

Title: Sungkyunkwan Scandal
Genre: Period Romance & Comedy
Total Episodes: 20
Broadcast Year: 2010

Brief Summary:

Sungkyunkwan University is in the late Joseon era where only males are allowed to enrol. Kim Yoon Hee (Park Min Young) resort to using her brother’s name to enter the university when her brother falls ill and their family were facing financial difficulty. Over there she befriends three fellow students, Lee Sun Joon (Micky Yoochun), Moon Jae Shin (Yoo Ah In) and Goo Yong Ha (Song Joong Ki).

Comment:

I wasn’t very keen on watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal at first because this drama’s plot reminds me of “Coffee Prince”, “Hana Kimi” and “You are Beautiful”, and I’m not really into period dramas. So I thought it’s just another drama with a gal disguising as a guy and mix into their company. I watch because of Micky Yoochun as I love DBSK! However it gets me very excited from episode one because even though the plot is typical, the setting is special as it is in the Joseon era. It revolves around the fun of campus life during that time and some of the games they played. Some of the casts are very comical too such as the prostitutes, other fellow school mates, etc. It gets excited as the story goes on with Kim Yoon Hee’s false identity and has to stay with the upright Lee Sun Joon and rebellious Moon Jae Shin in the same hostel. And also to tackle with Goo Yong Ha, the player in the university. Park Min Young is a very pretty boy when she is in the cover of a boy, sometimes I find her too feminine to be a boy but her character’s really adorable.

Moon Jae Shin is an interesting character as he is also the mystery mask rider Hong Byuk Seo. I’m totally in love with Yoo Ah In in this drama as his image is cool, defiant and bold but yet very caring and protective towards Kim Yoon Hee when he realise she is a girl. Song Joong Ki also did a good job portraying the character of Goo Yong Ha, the flirty player. I also enjoys watching the character, Ha In Soo come into screen as the notorious student president always making the lives of Kim Yoo Hee and friends difficult. I think Jun Tae Soo’s acting pretty good as a villian. Micky Yoochun’s role as Lee Sun Joon is entertaining especially when he struggle with his feelings for Kim Yoo Hee before knowing she is a girl in actual fact. But I feel that Micky Yoochun’s acting still have room for improvement though I really like him personally. This drama is adapt from a manga and I enjoy looking at the manga pictures during the beginning of each episode. The only bad point of this drama is it is quite boring and draggy sometime towards the end as there’s talk about politics and revenge, etc. Other than that, this drama is definitely a hit especially for period drama lovers!

Title: My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
Genre: Romance, Comedy and Fantasy
Total Episodes: 16
Broadcast Year: 2010

Brief Summary:

Cha Dae Woong (Lee Seung Ki) rescue a beautiful girl in the woods, not knowing that she is actually a 500 years old nine-tailed fox (gumiho) (Shin Min Ah) being trapped inside an old painting. Things happen as they begin to spend time together and fall with each other eventually.

Comment:

I again experience the magic of the Hong Sisters, really love their stories. This drama really cracks me up with hilarious scenes, especially the action school director and Dae Woong’s auntie! One of the best funny scenes would be when the action school director relieves himself behind a wall where Gumiho previously kicked and is in the verge of collapsing (See below). While he is doing his ‘business’, it suddenly collapsed and the ajumma inside the house saw everything and scream. The best part is that the director can still apologise with a straight face and toothpick in his mouth! LOL!!

It’s very entertaining and funny, Gumiho loves to eat beef from morning to nightfall. Dae Woong give her a big drumstick soft toy as a result of it, so cute! Shin Min Ah did a good job as the innocent and glutton gumiho. Who will think a gumiho can be so endearing. I think she look prettier with long hair as compared to her hairstyle in ‘Naked Kitchen’. She had a very good chemistry with co-star Lee Seung Ki and you will think they are really a couple! No Min Woo is also hot in this drama, I called him ‘hottie’ in this drama because his character as a vet is so charming and cool! After this drama, I started craving for beef. You might end up eating more beef after you watch this drama if you are a beef lover!
